Wide Varietal Range

The approach taken by the owners at start-up of the Rowsley Fault Vineyard was quite different to the usual Australian wine making practices and traditions of planting what has been typical in the Geelong region. Basically we first decided to “let the area tell us what grew best” and what gave the premium style of wine the Rowsley Fault Vineyard was looking to produce. We started with a 6 acre “test plot” of 42 varietals, rootstocks and clones, which was first planted in 1993, called “The Collection”.

Over the next decade it became clear from this Collection exactly what would give us the wine quality we wanted. As expected Pinot Noir, Grenache, Shiraz, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc were clearly promising, as is the case across the Moorabool and Bellarine Peninsulas. Whilst we see our vineyards as offering a serious Pinot Noir specialization with 43 acres under vine and twelve clones of Pinot, such as B777, B115, MV6, D2V6 just to name a few, we also have an exciting range of exotic European varietals including some Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Pinot Gris, Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre (Mataro).

We are also one of the few Australian wineries that grow and market single Graciano and Gamay. Our objective is to offer small volume production of these exciting varietals to a discerning wine drinker looking for new palate experiences.
